New community hub officially opens in Lawley

Posted on: 21 Feb 24

A former estate agent in Lawley Village has been transformed into a brand-new Community Hub for local people and groups.

The Hub, in the Village Square, was home to Foden Property until July 2023 when Bournville Village Trust (BVT), which provides estate management and stewardship services in the Village, took over the lease.

The charitable trust has worked closely with residents in the Village to create and shape the Hub, which will be used to provide opportunities for community groups and charities to meet.

BVT staff will also be based at the Hub and residents will be able to access their services as well as support and advice from a variety of organisations including the local police team and Citizens Advice.

The resident-led Lawley Management Committee, who govern the work of BVT’s estate and stewardship services in Lawley, work closely with Telford and Wrekin Council and Lawley and Overdale Parish Council.

James Haldron, a local resident and Chair of the resident-led Lawley Management Committee, said:

“Residents have been really keen to have a space in the Village for local groups to get together so we are delighted that the Community Hub has officially opened. It will also give residents the opportunity to speak to members of the BVT team when they need to.”

BVT are based in the Community Hub every day and residents can visit to discuss any queries or issues they have. In addition, there is a large open space that can be used by community groups as well as a private meeting room.

Nick Freeman, Estates & Stewardship Manager for Lawley at BVT said:

“The Community Hub is already being used by partners such as Citizens Advice, the resident-led Lawley Management Committee and the local Safer Neighbourhood teams. It’s also now the starting point for our estate walk and talks where we go around the Village to spot any issues that need to be resolved. We’re really pleased we’re now able to offer other groups and partners the opportunity to use the space and look forward to welcoming all members of the community to the Hub.”

The Hub can be used by a variety of groups such as:

  • Local community groups
  • Local charities
  • Professional groups/meetings
  • Parent and baby classes
  • Knit and natter groups
  • Book club.

In addition, for residents who work from home and would like a change of scenery, they are also welcome to base themselves at the Community Hub.
